22. Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.

Proverbs 15:22

Today’s Passage Takes another turn from the concepts covered yesterday and brings us more excellent advice from an individual who learned his lessons both the hard way and through God-Given Wisdom.

Here’s how the Verse reads in the KJV, “Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellers they are established.” This Lesson goes out to the “self-made man or woman.” You can’t do it all by yourself.

We all know the old adage, “no man is an island” and I agree wholeheartedly with that. However, that notwithstanding, I’ve always said I may not be an island, but I am a peninsula. But as I look back on my life and all of the Blessings, Counsel, and Training I’ve been subjected to, I have to curtail that sentiment.

There’s no way that I’d ever have made it to this point in life without the Guidance, Support, and Advice of friends, family, coaches, mentors, and teachers along the way. That’s considering I haven’t even made it to the level of success I’m aiming for yet.

In fact, not even counting my perspective writing career, if I only focused on wrestling and martial arts alone, I could never have achieved even a single win, belt advancement, or Lesson learned without the effort, concern, or sweat of so many individuals that I truly can’t even begin to thank them all.

And that’s not mentioning my Spiritual walk. From my parent’s lessons to my pastor’s sermons, to the Word of God itself, written by men like the author of this Passage, I’d never have come close to stumbling upon Salvation without all of their Instruction.

All that, and I haven’t even mentioned Jesus. From God’s Ten Commandments given to Moses, to Jesus Christ coming as God in Flesh, and every Lesson granted to humanity in between and since, each Message, Example, and every Warning that has helped me along the way, has been an invaluable boon, and a true godsend, helping me navigate through this life. Without them, I would be lost and floundering without any direction or Guide.

Look at the men and women we revere in today’s society, the millionaires and billionaires who seem to have captured the imagination of so many people. Regardless of what they say, there’s not a single one of them that would be where they are without the Guidance, Advice, or Counsel of a wise man or woman.

The athletes we all but worship for their physical abilities got where they are not only by the hard work they put in and from the sweat of their brows but from the countless hours of coaching, training, and motivation that has been poured into them.

Not a single one of us, no matter how successful we may become, has gotten where we are by ourselves. Even if it was just someone telling us that we couldn’t do something and that becoming our motivation to prove them wrong, we all have someone to thank for our success.

So today, as you reflect on who it was that helped you get to where you are, take the time to appreciate their sacrifice and maybe take a moment to thank them for all they did to get you to this point. Also, as you recall their assistance, think about what you can do to help someone else along the path they helped you forge.

As we are Blessed with a leg up in life, aside from appreciation, the best thing we can do to show our gratitude is to pay it forward. Take the Lessons you have been given and teach them to someone else. That goes from athletics to finance to the Word of God.

None of us would have come to God without someone showing us the way, just like no great champion would have won a title without a coach. We are called in God’s Word to compel people to the Gospel. That brings new meaning to “Each One, Teach One! That is some of the best Counsel we could ever receive.”

Have a Fantastic Friday and Remember, None Of Us Would Be Where We Are Without Good Counsel!
